Open call: Lichen #2 Prize for Curators

As a testing ground for visual thinking in diverse forms, CIAP and Curatorial Studies — KASK & Conservatorium have initiated and endowed the Lichen Prize to foster and support curatorial innovation in Belgium. The call is open to all alumnae and alumni of the Curatorial Studies

programme — as well as of its earlier forms: TEBEAC and ‘Beheer, conservatie en restauratie van museale collecties hedendaagse kunst’ — regardless of age, current professional status or geographic location. In fall 2020, CIAP and Curatorial Studies proudly presented Petrichor, a group exhibition curated by the laureate of the 2019 edition, Lucie Ménard.

open call 2021-22

The Lichen Prize consists in the opportunity to organise a curatorial project — whether exhibition, performance, lecture series or another format — at CIAP, Genk, in early 2022. As part of the Prize,  the winner will receive logistic, financial and theoretical support from the team of CIAP and Curatorial Studies.

The organisers make available a project budget of 6,000 EUR (incl. tax). This budget is to cover artist fees, transport and production costs. All costs related to communication, technical support and catering are covered separately by CIAP. In addition, the winner receives a fee of 2,000 EUR (incl. tax). The applicants are encouraged to consider additional funding sources and strategic partnerships.

Procedure: Applicants are requested to provide a brief outline of the project (max. 500 words, including names of proposed artists or collaborations), a CV, an estimated budget (max. 1 A4, recto only) and any supplementary material (images, recordings) so long as the whole application can be sent in one email. Please, send your application with the subject “Lichen #2” to communicatie@ciap.be.

Deadline for the submission of the project and provisional budget: 26 February 2021 at 12pm. The selected proposal will be announced at the end of April 2021.

A jury composed of staff and board members of CIAP, tutors from Curatorial Studies – KASK & Conservatorium and an invited external curator will assess all completed applications.
