°1998, Turkey

Ipek Aytekin is a 25-year-old artist who resides and works in Antwerp, originally from Istanbul, Turkey. She relocated to Belgium at the age of 21, following three years of study at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul, in order to delve deeper into art and gain more insight into the contemporary art scene in Europe. She completed her studies in the field of sculpture at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp and obtained her Master’s Degree from the same department. During her studies, she transitioned from the printmaking department to learn bookbinding and printing techniques. Her main focus lies in creating installations using materials such as fabric, paper, thread, and plaster. She also incorporates intuitive ink drawing to enhance her expressionistic approach. From the onset of her artistic education, she actively participated in group exhibitions with her fellow students and contributed to the external group show titled “Daemons Always Ask Nicely” at Blikfabriek. As she progressed, her interests expanded to encompass editing, curating, and photography. She aspires to combine different disciplines after completing her master’s degree. Currently, she works as a sous-chef/chef at a restaurant in Antwerp. Her ultimate goal is to transition into the art field and establish herself as a successful curator after completing the Curatorial Studies postgraduate programme.
