°2001, Belgium

Marie Stalpaert was born in 2001 in Antwerp, Belgium. After graduating from high school, she chose to study architecture at the University of Antwerp, where she could combine science and design. Following her bachelor's degree in Antwerp, she decided to pursue her first master's at l'École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Paris-Belleville. There, she developed an interest in socially and culturally driven architecture. She conducted research titled "Accessibilité et sécurité à l’entrée des musées: un paradoxe."

For her master’s thesis, she spent three months in Moengo, Suriname, conducting fieldwork. Her project, titled "Mi Habi Wan Theater" (I Have a Theatre), was a participatory action research project focused on repurposing a former theatre into a cultural center. This project provided a significant opportunity to explore the role of the curator, not just as a caretaker of objects or materiality, but as an active participant in shaping cultural and communal narratives. She is eager to apply these skills to the curatorial field, where she aims to contribute to the creation of stories that not only showcase art but also provoke thought and inspire dialogue.
