Curatorial Studies

Sonia D'Alto

Graduation Project

Sonia D’Alto is a curator, researcher, writer, and occasional editor. She is currently pursuing a practice-based PhD at HFBK in Hamburg and has collaborated with independent spaces, artistic residencies, and art institutions including the Venice Biennale, Museo Madre (Naples), Fondazione Pini (Milan) documenta studies (Kassel), Villa Arson (Nice) and Casino Luxembourg. Her curatorial practice is grounded in speculative methodologies experimenting with a political imagination of the future as exemplified by her work addressing the relation between superstition and modernity, folklore, craft and power taxonomies through feminist gestures, decolonial - magic practices and subaltern cosmologies (winner of the 11th Edition of the Italian Council). She is interested in dealing with issues of dispossession, vulnerability, and relegated memories through film, feminism, and political ecology. Her writing has appeared in NERO, Flash Art, Mousse, and Critique d’Art. A book she has curated is coming soon for Archive Books.
